Formal Wedding Invitations

Formal invitations generally use fancy script text with ribbons and other embellishments throughout. The color used is generally limited to black text on a white background, although often the wedding colors are also incorporated into the design of a formal wedding invitation.

Wording should be kept very formal, with full names and dates fully spelled out. The only exception is made for numbers e.g. 100, which can be printed out numerically.

Modern Wedding Invitations

Design is really anyone’s game when it comes to modern invitations. Whether you want octagonal-shaped invitations, bold fuchsia-colored wedding invitations, or invitations that come with all the bells and whistles, you really can have whatever you want when you choose modern wedding invitations. These invitations can also include only one envelope, or they can be self-mailing, which fold in on themselves to create an envelope.

You can generally word your modern wedding invitations however you want as well. You don’t need to worry about spelling out names and dates but still keep general etiquette in mind and remember to be considerate and respectful.

All words need to be fully spelled out, including dates and names. There is also a very specific order of the bride’s parents names being stated first, then the parents of the groom, and then the name of the couple.

Just like modern invitations, the world is your oyster when you choose custom wedding invitations. Be bold with shapes, color, design, and overall theme with your invitations! And don’t think that you need to stick to paper invites either. Plastic surfboards or pieces of metal with your names, times, and dates etched onto them can make for great custom wedding invitations! And when you’re getting all caught up with design, don’t forget about the envelope – you’ll have to design that too!

The most important thing about wording when it comes to custom invitations is that it has to be yours! Do not be tempted to use a traditional template or word that you’ve seen on dozens of invites before. Make it yours, and make it unique – that’s what customization is all about!
